Description:
This 3-day hands-on class introduces participants to the environmental applications
of ESRI's ArcGIS 9 software. Beginning with a discussion of general concepts
and vocabulary, the course will move into teaching basic ArcGIS 9 functionality.
Each participant will have their own computer workstation to create, edit,
display and analyze real world environmental data during numerous hands-on
exercises. On the third day, participants will be given an opportunity to
become more proficient with their skills by applying their knowledge to more
complex and in-depth projects.
Intended Audience: This hands-on course is intended for environmental and graphics professionals involved with the collection, interpretation, and presentation of spatially related data. Attendees will gain an understanding of how to utilize the capabilities of ArcGIS 9 by working first hand on sample scenarios. Previous GIS experience is not required.
Prerequisites: Basic understanding of computer operations. Previous experience using GIS software is not required.

About the Instructors:
Jeff Berry has over 10 years of experience in GIS analysis, application development, and project management. He has been an ESRI-certified GIS instructor since 2002. In addition to his work for Erlandsen & Associates, his professional experience includes work for Hemisphere Field Services in Minneapolis, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the National Center for Resource Innovation.
Richard K. Baron has been involved with ESRI software and GIS since 1990. As a GIS analyst with VESTRA Resources, Inc. for 11 years, he worked on a wide range of projects in natural resources, forestry, land management, viticulture, and local government applications. As a VESTRA on-site trainer, he was instrumental in setting up, training and facilitating the use of ESRI for several government agencies. rkBARON GEOvisuals was started in 2004 by Mr. Baron to bring together his experience in GIS with a strong interest in technologies such as landscape visualization , 3D, and multimedia.
What to Bring: Pen or pencil
and a water bottle (to reduce waste). Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate
for the prevailing weather.
If participants have GIS-related projects, they are welcome to bring the data
to class. If time allows, the instructor will work with individuals
to answer questions regarding their data and project. Please bring your data
on a CD-ROM or USB drive.
Credit: 2.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Registration: $695. ($595 if registering by August 5, 2005.) Registration includes proceedings, tutorials, and reference materials. Also includes coffee, drinks, and snacks each day.
