Instructors bio: Rocio Peralta, P.E., is a Principal of MP Stormwater Engineering LLC and has 16 years of civil engineering experience with Washington State Department of Transportation. 12 years were spent specifically in hydraulic engineering where Ms. Peralta conducted Bridge Scour Studies, Fish Passage Designs and Hydrological and Hydraulic Designs and Stormwater Policy and Design. She has taught numerous technical courses throughout the State of Washington on general highway drainage, hydrology, computer programs, storm drain system design, stormwater design and policy, and fish passage design. Ms. Peralta also participated in the major revisions to the Department's two surface water management manuals.
Glorilyn Maw, P.E., is a Principal of MP Stormwater Engineering LLC and earned her Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington. She has 16 years of civil engineering experience with key technical strengths in stormwater systems design, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, floodplain management, bridge scour, and fish passage. She has taught several technical courses throughout the State of Washington on general highway drainage, hydrology, computer programs, storm drain system design, stormwater management design and fish passage design. With experience in government and consulting, Ms. Maw has technical and management experience in civil engineering including project management for the design and construction of transportation projects and the procurement and management of multiple land development projects.
Intended Audience: This one day course is intended for designers working on highway projects and responsible for the surface water management design of the project. This course is also useful for environmental permitting staff that needs a better understanding of the stormwater management requirements.
Prerequisites: None. This is an introductory class.
Course Materials: Participants will be able to define key terms used in the Highway Runoff Manual, determine the applicable thresholds and exceptions of a proposed project and describe its Minimum Requirements and / or exemptions.
