Description: This course provides participants with an overview of key environmental laws and regulations applicable to Indian Reservations in Washington State. The topics covered are intended for tribal members and environmental staff seeking to develop their regulatory programs; state and local regulators who wish to better understand the interaction between tribal and state environmental jurisdictions on fee lands within reservations; and environmental professionals seeking an improved understanding of the regulatory landscape on reservations.

- Inherent Tribal Authority for Environmental Regulation

- Delegation of Authority for Federal Environmental Laws

- Tribal Water Quality Regulation and Off-Reservation Effects

- Hazardous Waste and Toxic Management on Reservations

- Tribal Air Quality Regulation


- Federal Air Rules for Reservations in Washington, Oregon and Idaho

- Treaty Rights and Endangered Species- Impacts On and Off Reservation

- Shoreline Management on Reservation

- Land Use Planning and Jurisdiction on Reservations

- Tribal Government's Role in Global Climate Change

- Application of Course topics to a Hypothetical Scenario

Course Materials: Each attendee will receive a binder containing the course proceedings and reference material at the beginning of the class.

What to Bring: Pen or pencil (and paper if you prefer not to write in your binder) and a coffee cup and water bottle to reduce waste. Drinks and snacks will be provided both days.

Cancellation Policy: Registration fees are fully refundable up to 30 days prior to the event and 50 percent refundable (or 100% credit) thereafter up to 3 business days prior to the event.
