Excel comes packaged with lots of tools specifically designed to speed up analysis and auditing tasks, yet many people never know how to use them, or that they even exist in the first place. We'll take a look at incorporating these workhorse tools into your Excel repertoire. And for those times when you need a custom solution, there is no more powerful option than leveraging Excel's built in support for the Visual Basic programming language. Even if you've never written a line of code in your life, we'll get you up and running writing custom routines and functions that you can customize to exactly fit your requirements.

This is the second course in a 2-part series. This course is separate from "Excel Up To Speed: Shortcuts, Functions, And Charts (COMP-410)," so that attendees may take it at a later date if they do not have flexibility in their schedule, however we highly recommend that the two courses be taken together. COMP-412 is not meant to be taken as a stand-alone class without first taking COMP-410.

"I learned a huge amount that I know I will apply to my current work and will be able to share with my coworkers.  I also liked the breaks – it helped me focus, because 8 hours/day of excel is a lot."  L. Brady, September 2013

"Adam was great – knew his stuff, dealt with our different skill levels, checked in a lot.  I felt comfortable asking questions and contributing."  L. Brady, September 2013

**Please make sure your computer is equipped with Excel 2010 (Excel 2007 acceptable)

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Install and use the Analysis Toolpak to perform common statistical analysis of their data.
  • Perform auditing and data validation tasks to help clean messy data sets and provide reliable results
  • Learn the basics of using the Visual Basic editor to create custom routines and automate tasks.

Intended Audience:

This course is beneficial for any professional who works with a large amount of data, and needs to improve their Excel skills to be able to make the most of the power of the software. Past attendees include environmental managers, engineers, field staff, scientists, and government agency staff.
