Description: In this online course, registrants will get a comprehensive overview of the National Enviromental Policy Act, starting with a description of what it is, when it's necessary, who needs to deal with it, and the different types of NEPA projects. After a review of terminology, documents, and other related laws and requirements (such as SEPA, CEQA, Endangered Species Act, etc.), the NEPA timeline will be explained, with some general strategies for process/planning. The program is presented online via an interactive format with audio, video, and activities/knowledge check quizzes. If you are new to NEPA, or simply need a concise, clear description of the process, this course will get you up-to-speed quickly!
Intended Audience: This workshop is designed to serve both as a comprehensive introduction for those new to NEPA and a refresher for more experienced professionals. The course is beneficial for federal agency staff and decision makers, attorneys, consultants, as well as members of environmental organizations and interested citizens who are concerned about the environmental effects of federal actions.

About the Instructor
Dr. Reinke has more than 20 years of NEPA experience working for private
consulting firms and for DoD and other federal agencies. Currently he
works at Edward AFB, CA where he is a Senior Environmental Scientist for
NEPA and Natural Resources issues.
Before coming to Edwards AFB he worked for the Army National Guard at
both the installation and NGB headquarters level where he developed the
initial NEPA guidance for the Army National Guard. Dr. Reinke received a
BS in Biology/Chemistry from Southwestern Oklahoma State College (1973)
and a MS in Botany (1975) and PhD in Plant Ecology (1980) from the
University of Kansas.
Dr. Reinke is a member of numerous national and international
environmental organizations and is the senior author of two books. “The
NEPA Reference Guide” 1999 Battelle Press and “Endangered Species,
Legal Requirements and Policy Guidance”2001 Battelle Press both coauthored
with Lucinda Low Swartz.
